Purina Animal Nutrition introduces NutriTek™ Technology; a new opportunity for dairy producers to meet the demands of transition cows and obtain higher peak milk.

Purina® NutriTek Technology combines the benefits of Diamond V Original XPC™ with a new proprietary fermentation technology, to deliver elevated levels of antioxidants, polyphenols and beneficial metabolites, designed to support cow health and lactation performance.

“The goal should be a steep but smooth climb to peak milk production – no hiccups,” says Dr. Stu Rymph, dairy nutritionist with Purina Animal Nutrition’s livestock technical support group. “Purina® NutriTek™ Technology can provide the critical nutrition support to help cows get through energy challenges faced during the transition period. In addition, the elevated levels of antioxidants and polyphenols in Purina® NutriTek™ Technology help support the cow’s immune system.”

Dairy producers, who have already incorporated Diamond V Original XPC™ in their herd diets, are likely to see an even better performance with the new technology. When Purina® NutriTek™ Technology was compared with Diamond V Original XPC™, cows fed NutriTek™ Technology had significantly higher dry matter intake (+2.9 pounds) and milk production (+4.4 pounds per cow per day) than the Original XPC™ group. Diets were fed from 21 days pre-fresh to 70 days in milk.

Greater benefits may be seen in herds which have not used Diamond V Original XPC™ in their diets. Research shows that cows fed Purina® NutriTek™ Technology 21 days pre-fresh and 21 days post-fresh got off to a better start and went on to peak higher than the control cows by producing 7.6 pounds more energy corrected milk per day.

“Every cow starts her lactation in a negative energy balance, but that doesn’t mean you can’t manage it. With NutriTek™ we saw higher peaks with no difference in body condition compared to the XPC or control cows. This is one of the advantages of higher dry matter intakes during this critical time period,” says Dr. Rymph.
